“New Hansa is one of the most important sustainable development projects of the UBC. The special strength of this project is the combination of very concrete practical issues with the cities' development challenges. Our organisation is very much looking forward to the results and aims at disseminating them to all Baltic cities as well as to our European friends, for example around the Mediterranean Sea." “ As a Port Manager I find the NewHansa project very interesting as I belive the participating and other ports will become more aware of the necessity of HELCOM’s regulations, as many ships as well as some port authorities around the Baltic Sea still consider reception of ships' waste as a minor problem.” (Mr Per Bendix Jensen)

“ I hope this project will give us good practices in receiving and handling of waste and waste water from the ships. Especially we need experiences on handling of waste water from bulk shipping. In my opinion the most important objective for this project is the Baltic Memorandum of Understanding on Sustainable Port Policy.” (Mr Matti Lankiniemi)

“ The transport system is the major cause of environmental problems in Stockholm, where the impact of the shipping and harbour sectors is an important part of the total environmental impact deriving from the transport sector. In my opinion, New Hansa will be a good instrument to improve air quality in Stockholm. The project also addresses the very important issues of handling of ship generated waste.” (Mr Carl-Lennart Åstedt, Director of the City of Stockholm's Environment and Health Administration)

"In the Ports of Stockholm we are striving to raise environmental awareness, both in our own operation and those of our customers and colleagues. According to our experience, the most impact will be achieved through common efforts. The “New Hansa” project is of great importance as it will enable ports, cities and shipping industries to share experience and best practice how to reduce the impact on the environment. It will increase the possibilities to strengthen and harmonize the environmental efforts in the Baltic Sea region." (Mr Christel Wiman, Managing Director and CEO, Ports of Stockholm)

“ As the Environmental Department of the City of Malmö we are the inspecting authority of the harbour. Through the New Hansa project we hope to gain deeper insight on the environmental impact of the harbour at a level that normally would not be included in the inspection work. At the same time we develop a closer contact to the environmental coordinator of the harbour in Malmö, which facilitates future co-operation. In the long run we are looking for a better marine environment around the Baltic Sea.” (Ms Jenny Wickström)
